Another Bloated Live Stream – DT LIVE

Derek Kong , Miami, FL – Support ? What support! It does not exist. Wait time 30 minuter. – This hosting company is a subsidiary of BlueHost and I wonder if their service is as bad as #Justhost?

Live streams are bloated. Bloated like GNOME, systemd and electron all wrapped into one. To cut down on the bloat, I will try to keep the actual content of this stream to a minimum. If you want actual content, you’ll need to patch this stream.

    Hi DT,
    I have watched all the presentations about I3, dwm, xmonad, and found them most interesting, But bottom line, I have found that the configuration for each type is a pain.

    That said, I went for a simple minimal xfce Fedora 32, as a base, and found, for a single monitor system, that not one of tiling interface improves over the regular full screen with ability to open an alternative session.

    Is a tiling manager really more useful for a dual monitor host and not so for a single monitor host?

    I am amazed how many people would ask or imagine that the fat guy picture is DT's.
    Derek knows better than that and for sure he isn't that fat.
    C'mon guys, is that hard to differentiate between reality and a internet picture?

    I loved the stream. Re: Linux Mint. They do have a debian based version of their distro available. I think they will eventually move to Debian.

    Fucking stop saying "lynn icks". Think for one fucking second how you pronounce "Linus." Either pronounce it "Linux" or pronounce it as Linus himself pronounces it: "Leenoox."

    Why "lynn icks"? Because it rhymes with Minix????

    pdflatex mydocument.tex && atril mydocument.pdf
    This compiles a tex file into pdf and opens it from the terminal to be previewed in atril. I use this all the time. I also have the terminal window in a tabbed i3 container so the atril window covers the terminal window when the above command is run.

    DT, if you can play the piano then you can easily learn to play a string-instrument like the guitar or harp. Not sure about the violin though, that is technically too different. I play the piano and the guitar, it really is not that different. You have a good left/right hand coordination or you don't, if you have that and you have general talent for music then both these instruments should not be a problem. You can learn the mechanics of playing the guitar quite fast, after a few months of playing that will feel quite comfortable.

    English is one of the official languages of India. So many people, esp those in tech and linux specially watch your videos. Also I got relatives in Chicago, so when I saw the Arch Linux install video I was like, hey I'll meet Derek, probably. Heard Chris is also from chicago!

    Long time (20 year) Gentoo user – not a fanboi here, just wanted to add my experience. Gentoo will break, but it also taught me more about Linux than anything else. Sometimes you have to really dig deep to fix the problems. Not what everyone wants in an OS if you're just wanting to 'use it'. On my R7 2700x, the install took about 4 hour hours. Would love to try Arch, but just pretty comfortable with my existing setup. If (when) Gentoo breaks catastrophically on me again I might give it a spin. At the end of the day I think it comes down to what you're used to and what you like – the true beauty of Linux. Freedom.
