Comparing a $100 Action Camera to the GoPro HERO4

Very Unhappy Customer! Avoid Blue host!!! I’ve been with Blue host too long. Too many problems over the years, a lack of basic service and assistance to address problems they claim to offer help with where other companies will not. What Blue host is special at is directing me to search, the web for addressing any issue they fail to address, which sadly has been every issue I’ve brought to their attention. They offer a multitude of fluff services and their customer service/tech representatives work from home, making the speaking connection poor at times opposed to hard line at an actual company. Far too many complaints to list. Avoid Blue host and invest your money with a company that will actually deliver on what they promise!

First, WOW at the audio difference. Makes the GoPro sound like it's using a nice external mic in comparison. Secondly, the $100 seems to crop in video for stabilization, as it did indeed seem more stable than the GoPro. That being said, the GoPro had noticeably better image quality, white balance, exposure adjustment, and dynamic range.

Great video, David. Only thing I would have suggested is putting a little symbol next to the side-by-side comparison indicating which one you're hearing the audio from, and changing the audio source while in the side-by-side a couple of times to get a clear representation of each.

GoPro looks and sounds much better. There are much better options out there for GoPro alternatives. Most are between $100-200. I still think the Sony Action cameras blow GoPro's out of the water with their quality. The Sony FDRX3000's are amazing! Though, this camera's stabilization is pretty impressive.

Action camera stabilization kills go pros but besides that it belongs in the garbage. Horrible audio and video. When you were outside you could see a rainbow effect on the action camera. Fun video David!!!

My advice : Wait for a sale and spend the extra money on a GoPro.

$100 action cam is crap, for those on a budget use your smartphone buy the $10 wide angel attachment and done. GoPro from audio to video and plus the extreme wide angle its a done deal, you get what you paid for.

Forget both if these. RunCam 3 is better than both.

I just realized how far we have come in terms of audio quality when hearing the muffled audio from the Explore Cam!

    Explorer 1S is cheap AF!

Explorer isn't bad for the price!

GoPro definitely worth the extra $$$. Investing in memory footages is worth every penny. Can't put a price on that.

GoPro wins it for me, so much more clearer, brighter and louder.

GoPro wins both in visual and audio. The Explorer 1s audio sounds muffled and horrible

Go pro 4 definitely superior, worth spending the extra money. There is also a huge difference with the audio. David you did an excellent comparison video, thanks

    Posted at 21:38h, 17 May

Ya, not even close. If you don't want to pay for a GoPro the Sony Cameras aren't bad for the price.

I have to admit the sound feels better on the go pro

But for people starting out I guess the cheaper one is not bad lol 🙂

The GoPro shines here but if you want to save a third the cost or so, the MGCool isn't a bad choice!

I laughed every time he cut to the Explorer 1S. The picture quality and audio is so bad and the field of view sucks. It really is laughable and there is no comparison between the two. Don't waste your money (even if on a really tight budget) on that camera. Just save up for a few months and buy something of much better quality with the GoPro. For me, it's is well worth the extra $200-300.

I like the go pro better.I can tell a big difference between the two. one's got more sound then the other. the picture is better than the other.

I bought my GoPro Hero 4 Silver from BH Photo & Video and it came with a bunch of extra accessories. It is awesome I record my sister's volleyball games all the time and the quality is great.
