How To Install WordPress On Hostgator ( )

Do not use host gator!!! – Signed up a year ago and tried to cancel about two months ago – I found it impossible to contact anyone and after emailing a manager asking to cancel he told me I couldn’t unless I sent them a copy of my passport (?) which I obliged in doing. Was then told they need a copy of my bank card (?) which I also provided and was then told this wasn’t sifficient evidence of identity and therefore my account cannot be cancelled. Then tried to cancel by formally emailing the manager saying the company did not have my permission to take any money from my bank account and that I would like my account to be closed – to which I was sent an extremely rude email from a manager saying they would not take my email seriously?!? Since this money has been taken from my bank account THREE TIMES in the past two months without my permission and without any success in closing my account with #hostgator. Anyone planning on using this site – BEWARE. I’vNever had a worse experience using any online service. M., Montreal

don't forget if you buy a domain on name cheap and want to transfer it to host gator it must be 60 days old before you can get the epp code, and once you register a domain you can not unregister it to reregister it on your web host. Thumbs up this to save some peers alot of time and disappointment

I signed up for hostgator and registered a domain name. Then I logged into control panel. I watched a few videos about installing wordpress through hostgator control panel. i went through quick install. but once the install is completed and i click on the link, the page is not found. I went through Fantastico and Quick Install and both say the same thing. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Both says page not found.
    Can you help me?

Hmmm…How long ago did you buy your domain? So you bought your domain from hostgator?

  • Lost Under the Sky
    Posted at 06:09h, 25 January

maybe less than 2 hours ago. i was thinking that might have something to do with it.

  • simplebutcreative
    Posted at 06:13h, 25 January

Yes that's the problem right there…USUALLY you have to wait 24 to 48 hours for the domain to propagate. In my case, since I buy my domains from Namecheap it takes only a couple for propagation.

Why don't you just buy both the domain name and hosting from host gator??

  • simplebutcreative
    Posted at 18:21h, 20 May

@TRanceifyable Well, I lost a domain name doing it that way…Before switching to Hostgator..Bought a domain and hosting at the same place. I wasn't satisfied with that company's service so I cancelled…I didn't know that I couldn't take my domain with me..So I lost that domain name..Idk if web host providers still do that? But I just keep the two things separate now…

  • Livewire
    Posted at 02:43h, 21 May

Ok makes sense. If you're not happy with Hostgator you lose both. Thanks.

  • simplebutcreative
    Posted at 05:28h, 21 May

Yeah it's better to keep it separate…

  • simplebutcreative
    Posted at 19:11h, 21 May

I didn't know that back in the day…But now I know better…I still refuse to buy domain from them…I use them for web hosting only.

Question, When you buy a domain how do you get the w w w . to appear? I understand that this would be considered a subdomain. I've tried adding it in the "subdomain" section of the control panel but it won't accept. Whenever I go to w w w . (mywebsite) . com I get a message saying "Your Name Servers May Need Updating". I don't understand why it's saying this since I've already updated the DNS to point towards my Hostgator name servers found in my control panel.

Danny Gomez, You go to your wordpress dashboard. Then go to settings – general.
Then you see the two 'wordpress address (URL):' and ('Site address (URL):' they should be at the moment '' just put the http://www.bit where it should be on both then save. It will log you out then just log back in and it will be sorted.

I get a headache every time I look at HostGator's control panel. It is from a previous century, and not intuitive at all. Hepsia is much better and i can confidently say that the Hepsia Control Panel surpasses cPanel in every aspect.
