How to Set Up WordPress on a Temporary URL on HostGator

#hostgator…NO THANKS – Worst company ever. First of all, I cancelled and switched. Come to find out after cancelling, they charged my account for 3 YEARS as if I was still using them. I am so displeased and would never recommend this horrible company to anyone. Save yourself a lot of time and money and find someone else. Emily

A tip from http://bloggingwithamy.com – Walks you through how to use a temporary URL on HostGator to get your site set up before pointing your domain.

All the links that are specified as "/images/icon.gif" or "/post-name" fail. They resolve to the IP root (one level above your ~username

Thx for this info, it worked! however just a quick note, i was able to get into the temporary url but if i tried to get into the wp-admin it ends in a 404 error, I had to add a / to the end of the temporary url in both siteurl and home in phpMyAdmin and that way worked now

This is the best and most comprehensive tutorial! Hostgator technical support couldn't even resolve this. So I googled and found your tutorial! You are a lifesaver and we are going to subscribe to your channel for more!

You have no idea how thankful I am for this video! I am trying to migrate from wordpress.com over to a self hosted option with Planet Hippo. They've been nothing but unhelpful in trying to make it work. I finally got some direction from wordpress.com themselves informing me to get my new host to provide me with a temp url. The rest is thanks to you! Got my theme and content loaded up to it now. I just hope the next step is not too difficult
