The Tesla Semi Changes EVERYTHING

Blue Host Had my dog appreciation website for at least 4 years, and made a really serious mistake. They changed my account from an automatic renewal to manual and never sent me an E-mail. Then they canceled my account and deleted my website complete with the awards the website had received. And they didn’t keep a backup on file. I’ll choose someone else to host my site. This company is terrible.

If the Tesla Semi convoy savings do rely on no drivers (i.e. in the following trucks), I'm sure Amazon lobbyists will get it approved by Congress/Senate/Executive quicksmart.
Silly me thinking it was all to do with the followers driving in the leader's slipstream.

Those features, could be made or actual be build by most of the truck companies, even today. Some fleet owner, just don´t want to pay for extra safety.

Lack of maintenance is figured into the average cost per mile. Hence why normal trucks cost $1.50 in the long run. Maintenance aside it does not cost that much. 10 years experience with 150k miles a year. I look forward to driving one.

Also my new truck has lane assist and auto braking.

Driving in a convoy setup creates a sort of drag that kind of pulls the vehicles in the back to the front, kind of like how birds fly (sorry, I'm not familiar with the scientific facts and jargon or whatnot, I just got the main idea) and that increases efficiency. Also, someone mentioned in the comments and seemed like a valid idea, there could probably be only one driver sitting in the front, the other 2 just following along, thus 2 salaries not payed 🙂 ?

There is almost zero chance Amazon would partner with Tesla.
More likely Amazon will create ( try to create ) their own version of electric semis.

As always Amazon lays back and if things become successful they copy ( or try to copy ).

Others like E.g. Walmart may be a better bet if things go well.

I bet truck drivers get their pay cut as soon as companies start saving money. Why? Because truckers will be replaced by part time workers who lack any skills. Because they can.

Do you really think Jeff Bezos with his billionaire beef with Elon Musk is going to buy Tesla Semis? I highly doubt it. If anything, he'll wait for the first viable EV competitor to the Tesla Semi and buy thousands of those. There's no way Tesla Semis will be rolling around with the Amazon Prime logo on the side.

You constantly refer to building out the mega charging network similar to the supercharger network. Very few believe that will be the short term approach. Instead initial buyers will install mega chargers at their distribution centers to support their local truck routes. Simple, effective and low risk.

Like the roadster the semi is irrelevant until it is proven in real world work. That is if they ever make it. The date keeps slipping farther away. Don't get me wrong I would love to see the end of smelly diesels, but will wait to see if it proves itself.

You also should add the benefit of lack of accidents. In my area there are a ton of semi truck accidents. A smart semi truck that could prevent most of these accidents would save so much money.

One thing EVERYONE is missing is that Tesla should design the TRAILER WITH A STRUCTURAL BATTERY PAC for the FLOOR . The trailers sit on site sometimes for days waiting for loading or shipping instructions, if they had battery pacs [ charging while waiting ] the tesla semi could drive thousands of miles nonstop when hooked up to each other. This way the tractor would almost never have to stop for charging, other than the required bathroom and food breaks. CHEERS Steve h.

Tesla semis require 6-ton Lithium-ion batteries. That 12K pounds of lithium and rare-earther metals *per unit*. That lithium that will be scraped out of some of the most remote, wildest places on earth like the Atacama desert. No thanks. It is now my personal mission to determine if anything I'm ordering involves a tesla semi and if does I don't want it. Elon Musk doesn't care about the earth. He just wants your money. So he can move to Mars.

Payback time= <2 years with FSD <1 year. Tesla could charge TWICE with NO less sales for SURE! Ridiculously CHEAP. They should charge double since they take away profits from their Model 3. X, Y by using so many batteries. Don't get that equation. With that payback time, they should charge FOUR times and still would sell EVERY SEMI they can produce for DECADES!!

Yeah awesome! Lets save $600 million to amazon. They do such a great job for passing on their savings on to their customers and employees…
And new convoy truck will save sooo many driving jobs and awesome Elon Musk will get even richer and will surely pass on his wealth to all these drivers.
And lets all praise all those retarded youtube video creators who spread all these great news and convince us how awesome Besos and Musk is 😉

You do that 0 to 60 crap and you lose your CDL real quick. If an autonomous truck even attempts to go that fast off the line, it'll be towed. None of that 60 stuff matters. Then, you can't even go 65 in the mountains. Nationally mountain driving is restricted to a very low speed.

  • Ken Campbell
    Posted at 12:22h, 01 April

Still have to spend $3.6B upfront costs, which is roughly 6 year ROI to break even, that is IF those savings are realized. And FINALLY owning a model 3 this week, I realized that 256 miles or so range I have is actually closer to 200 miles on daily driving. I am supposed to not charge over 90% or deplete less than 20%. Then I lose another mile or two every day in phantom drain. That is like a tenth of a gallon of fuel evaporating in your ICE car every night.

Don't get me wrong. I love tesla and look for a reason to drive somewhere now and I'm ok with the trade offs. My concern is if companies do not understand about EV as they make the jump to Tesla Semis, they may end up short of the projected numbers and be less than happy. Drivers get paid when their wheels are turning. So if their 500 mile semi can only do 350 miles to keep the battery healthy, they will not be happy.

I am interested to see how it works out in the end.

At Battery day 6 months ago Elon said: the 4680 cell manufacturing had started, the production tools were 6-9 months away from being finalised, and also the same time scale to be up to full speed of 10 GWh/year. So no, not a lack of communication – they were very clear on the timeline and have kept to that.

Would be good to see what impact you think this will have to share price / volumes of sales etc. Yes lots of savings but what is a realistic growth rate and roadmap for the company. I don’t often see lorry convoys on the motorway. Likely very little impact and slow growth over next 5 years due to economics and logistics IMO.

    Great video BTW

A lot of talk and still nothing.
Others like Volvo already have electric trucks out there.
Meanwhile: In Sweden, Finland and other countries we already have heavy loads. Those 36 tonne load in the US is like… nothing. In Sweden we are above 70 tonne on a lot of roads and 90 tonne (and above) is already used under test conditions and Finland hast tested 104 tonne trucks six years ago! And like the minimum in Europe is 40 tonne (but several countries are above that).

BTW, comparing the fuelling of a battery with a diesel version is like, not accurate at all.
So, the diesel might take 15 minutes to fuel but it will go like three time the distance (or more) compared to the battery truck.

  • Kristian Vassilev

For the 3 semi convoy, they could be factoring in aerodynamics and only the first truck will need to break the air. The rest will be much more efficient.
