You’re being watched. Here is how to stop that (Helm Server is the answer)

JT , New York – Worse mistake I have done in my career. – I’ve been since 10 years in the website business. And yet #Justhost has been the worse choice I have ever made on a hosting. Technical support are aggressive and throw “legal” answers to protect themselves instead of trying to help you as customer. Chose just host and are yourself with patience and self control as…. you will be left alone.

What if everything you do, say, or think was searchable by police and corporations? That’s not fantasy – that is today. Helm prevents that with a $200 computer that protects your privacy at the source.

since ive been using a VPS and/or a raspberry pi at home, I'm quite sure that the next computing platform will be the self-hosted server. I do wish helm succeeds

Better but not perfect right? If Helm’s compelled they can ship an “update” to read your mails. Another issue here is funding for securing their product. How thorough are they with securing their own box, how much funding do they have for security engineers vs product development?

huge, massive fan of Helm here, their approach and everything they represent more broadly… can’t wait for more initiatives in this space (consumer privacy) in other product categories… this is going to be huge

14:24 This is the biggest reason I'm looking forward to the decentralized future. My business was banned from PayPal in 2016 for selling protein supplements. Honest mistake, but PayPal refused to unban us and it killed my online business. Went from making $160k annually to $0 with a single email. Couldn't imagine Google shutting down our communications like email with very little explanation. These companies have too much power!

We need a battery back up though, right? And a mirror somewhere else in case of fire / disaster?

Everybody gangsta until the CIA shows up at your house to steal your data

But seriously, I think while decentralization is amazing, it's not trustless – you now have to trust your physical environment & not losing your keys vs a well protected & backed up cloud.

Open source? where can I find code audits? I like this idea but a start up without back-doors is hard to believe. What's the difference between using this and hosting your own Linux server?

I know this is a long shot but I am building a privacy-focused social app. Would this be something you could be interested in? I am convinced privacy and anonymity will be huge in the future and wrote an article about it as well with over 150 sources.

If Helm server is based on the US, then anytime Law enforcement can ask for your data for no reason. The only way to circumvent this is by changing the law or by being on a country where law enforcement doesn’t have jurisdiction to do whatever they want.
